Leyre Villamediana Impresses in First Spanish Junior Judo Championship Final Phase

Leyre Villamediana finished in fifth place in his first participation in a final phase of the Spanish Junior Judo Championship that was held in Madrid. After becoming the best participant in the Galicia Championship and in the Western Sector of the Spanish Junior Championship last February, the athlete from the Judo Club Pontevedra-Gimnasio Squash de Vilagarcía has been left just one fight away from the positions of podium in the minus 63 kilograms weight category.

The championship was held in the Príncipe Felipe pavilion in Arganda del Rey and Villamediana managed to win her first match against a Basque rival, but would fall in the quarterfinals against the Madrid judoka and top seed Andrea Carazo. In the repechage, the athlete from Arousa achieved two consecutive victories against judokas from Asturias and Galicia, achieving a place in the fight for bronze, a fight in which she would end up being defeated by Lucía Carpio, the number 2 in the national junior ranking, leaving her without the possibility of a medal. With this result, Villamediana significantly improves her performance obtained in a Spanish championship. The judoka has accumulated three months of important successes that culminate with the result obtained in this national sporting event.
