Lewis Hamilton Breaks Record for Most Consecutive Seasons Scoring Points in Formula 1

Lewis Hamilton has not had the start to the 2024 Formula 1 season that he had hoped for. Nevertheless, the Mercedes driver has still managed to break an impressive record.

Hamilton made his debut in the premier class of motorsport in 2007, directly for McLaren, which was at the top together with Ferrari at the time. The Brit started his career with 9 podium results in his first 9 Grands Prix. He lost the championship that season by one point, but won the world title in 2008 by one point. He switched to Mercedes for 2013, which soon later turned out to be an extremely wise choice. Hamilton won the world championship in 2014 and 2015 and from 2017 to 2020 to become, together with Michael Schumacher, the most successful driver in Formula 1 ever. However, things have not gone well for Hamilton since then. After losing the title in 2021, he has not been on the top step of the podium. The 39-year-old from Stevenage has signed with Ferrari for next year.

Hamilton breaks record

Hamilton started the 2024 season in seventh position at the Bahrain Grand Prix before finishing ninth in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix last Saturday. He has now broken the record for scoring points in most consecutive seasons. Not a single year has gone by since Hamilton’s debut in which he has not scored any points, bringing him to 18 consecutive seasons. Until last year, he had to share this record with compatriot Jenson Button, who scored points every season from 2000 to 2016. Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel share third place in this statistic with 16 consecutive seasons with points. Sergio Pérez has scored points every year since his debut in 2011, while Max Verstappen has scored 10 consecutive seasons with points.
