Lena Häcki-Gross celebrates her fifth place at the Biathlon World Cup in Soldier Hollow.

Lena Häcki-Gross (28) finished in a strong 5th place in the pursuit at the Biathlon World Cup in Soldier Hollow in the US state of Utah.

After finishing 9th in the sprint, Häcki-Gross started the pursuit with great ambitions and did not disappoint. After one penalty lap, lying down and standing, she continuously works her way forward. In the last standing shooting, the Engelberg resident kept her nerve and improved to 5th place without any further mistakes – 1:15 minutes behind the French winner Lou Jeanmonnot.

Gasparin with the best result of the season

In her best World Cup season to date, Häcki-Gross made it into the top 5 for the seventh time. The highlights were her first two World Cup victories in the individual race in Antholz (Ita) and in the mass start event in Oslo (No). In the overall World Cup ranking she takes 7th place.

Aita Gasparin (30) was not able to fully utilize her good starting position with eighth starting position from the sprint. The Engadin woman also made two shooting errors and fell back to 15th place. But this is her best result in a pursuit this winter.

Among the men, Sebastian Stalder was only ranked 36th after four shooting errors. Niklas Hartweg, who also qualified for the pursuit, decided not to take part in the high altitude of the Rocky Mountains because of a slight sore throat. (SDA/mbi)
