Lazio Rome brings in Igor Tudor as their new coach

The Italian first division club Lazio Rome has officially signed the Croatian Igor Tudor as head coach, thus finally ending speculation about the involvement of World Cup record goalscorer Miroslav Klose.

On Monday evening, the club announced what Italian media had already reported last Friday. Tudor is said to have signed a contract until June 2025.

Klose, who has been without a coaching job for almost a year, recently openly declared his willingness to join immediately. The 45-year-old played for Lazio from 2011 to 2016 and ended his career there. During this time he was very popular with Roman fans.

Tudor (45) has been without a coaching job since his resignation as coach of the French first division club Olympique Marseille in June 2023 after just one season. The former Croatia international already knows the Italian league well from his time as a player at Juventus Turin (1998 to 2007) and as a coach at Udinese Calcio (2018, 2019), Juve (2020-21) and Hellas Verona (2021-22).

Predecessor Maurizio Sarri resigned after four competitive defeats in a row. The Romans are currently only in ninth place in Serie A and were eliminated in the round of 16 of the Champions League by Bayern Munich.
