Lazio president complains about Ciro Immobile

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has no sympathy for his star striker Ciro Immobile, who was both verbally and physically attacked by some of the club’s fans this week as supporters accuse him of being responsible for the departure of coach Maurizio Sarri to be.

Immobile reported on social media channels about an incident when he and his wife were attacked by Lazio fans while picking up their four-year-old daughter from kindergarten.

Lotito told journalists: “This happens to me every day. I have been living with special protection for 20 years. There are death threats against me and my family. What is the uprising about? I am the boss of a company with 8,000 employees, but I don’t act like that a wave. That’s all I’ll say.”

Lotito’s comments contrast with what the club previously posted on its social media channels regarding the Immobile incident: “The entire Lazio club expresses full solidarity with its captain Ciro Immobile and his family in the face of the disturbing and unacceptable attack. Any act of verbal or physical violence must be condemned unanimously and firmly, because there is no justification for it.”

Immobile has not yet publicly responded to Lotito’s comments. The tensions within the club are likely to still exist.

Lazio had lost four of the last five games before winning 3-2 at Frosinone on Saturday – with Immobile in the starting line-up. Before the weekend, the club only finished in a disappointing ninth place in Serie A. In the Champions League, the team was eliminated in the round of 16 after a 1-0 first leg win with a 3-0 defeat at FC Bayern Munich.
