PORTRAIT – Victorious in the mixed ultra-cycling world championship in 2023, the Frenchwoman is preparing for a new year of extreme challenges.
Don’t be surprised to come across, at dawn, at the foot of an Auvergne volcano or in the most beautiful passes of the Alpes-Maritimes, a woman wrapped in a blanket, under a Bus Shelter, with a bicycle placed next to it. Maybe it’s Laurianne Plaçais. « Sometimes you have to stop on the side of the road. Even at 5 in the morning, people stop to ask me if I’m okay »recounts, hilariously, the one who won the BikingMan 2023, presented by its creator Axel Carion (in 2017) as « the first world championship » ultra-cycling races.
On the program, around ten races over the year, sometimes with more than 1000 kilometers to cover, without any assistance. « It’s from point A to this same point A, we have a GPS track which is given, you have to follow it to the letter », explains Laurianne Plaçais.
