Laurianne Plaçais, champion of cycling races over 1,000 km

PORTRAIT – Victorious in the mixed ultra-cycling world championship in 2023, the Frenchwoman is preparing for a new year of extreme challenges.

Don’t be surprised to come across, at dawn, at the foot of an Auvergne volcano or in the most beautiful passes of the Alpes-Maritimes, a woman wrapped in a blanket, under a Bus Shelter, with a bicycle placed next to it. Maybe it’s Laurianne Plaçais. « Sometimes you have to stop on the side of the road. Even at 5 in the morning, people stop to ask me if I’m okay »recounts, hilariously, the one who won the BikingMan 2023, presented by its creator Axel Carion (in 2017) as « the first world championship » ultra-cycling races.

On the program, around ten races over the year, sometimes with more than 1000 kilometers to cover, without any assistance. « It’s from point A to this same point A, we have a GPS track which is given, you have to follow it to the letter », explains Laurianne Plaçais. Not made for Sunday cyclists, whether the race is held in Corsica, the Basque Country, Portugal, Morocco or even Brazil, host country this week at the start of the 2024 season. Four months…
