Konrad Laimer Set to Return to Starting Lineup for Bayern Munich against FSV Mainz 05

After recovering from injury, ÖFB legionnaire Konrad Laimer recently made three short appearances for Bayern Munich.

The Austrian should be back in the starting line-up in the Bundesliga game on Saturday against FSV Mainz 05 (from 3:30 p.m. in the LIVE ticker). The reason for this is the suspension of young star Aleksandar Pavlovic, who received his fifth yellow card in the 2-2 draw against Freiburg. In addition to Laimer, head coach Thomas Tuchel could of course also fill the central midfield position with Joshua Kimmich, but he should probably continue to act as a right-back.

Laimer was rarely positioned in midfield

“I’m not sure whether it makes sense to change the back four again,” said Tuchel at the PK on Friday, “even if Konny (Laimer, note) has already played there, we can use him in midfield is the trend.”

In principle, both players are familiar with both roles, even if Kimmich’s time in defense dates back several years. In 20 league appearances, Tuchel has only used Laimer six times in midfield and 14 times as a right-back.

“The final decision hasn’t been made yet,” the 50-year-old doesn’t want to commit yet.
