Kiel on course towards the Bundesliga

Holstein Kiel is getting closer and closer to the first Bundesliga promotion in the club’s history. The second-placed team in the 2nd Bundesliga won 1-0 (0-0) against Karlsruher SC on Saturday in front of 15,034 spectators and thus extended their lead over the relegation place to five points.

“Those are three great points today. But we shouldn’t look at the table, but at Elversberg,” said midfielder Finn Porath on Sky. The newcomer from Saarland is the “Storks” next opponent before the international break.

After several wasted chances, Lewis Holtby rewarded a strong Kiel performance with the opening goal in the 57th minute. The former first division and England professional scored with a deflected long-range shot. “If you don’t shoot, you won’t hit,” said Holty. “The fact that such a crooked thing decides the game in the end is something we worked out with some good chances beforehand.” Previously, his team had Tom Rothe (3rd), Alexander Bernhardsson (10th/34th), Shuto Machino (46th). /49.) and Timo Becker (47.) already missed much better opportunities.

After the two 4-0 wins against Kaiserslautern and Fürth, KSC also offered a convincing performance. After the Kiel goal, the Karlsruhe team pushed hard for an equalizer. Marvin Wanitzek (77′), Jerome Gondorf (86′) and Fabian Schleusener (88′) missed three great chances to make it 1-1.

Schalke scores after a wild game

FC Schalke 04 carelessly missed the connection to the middle of the table. Coach Karel Geraerts’ team lost a 2-0 lead against SC Paderborn, but still managed a 3-3 (1-0) draw in the end.

In front of 60,000 spectators in the Veltins Arena, the Bundesliga relegated team was already seemingly comfortably leading after goals from Kenan Karaman (32nd minute) with a hand penalty and Bryan Lasme (50th). But with the leadership behind them, nothing was going well for the Revierclub.

Aaron Zehnter (60th), David Kinsombi (78th) also with a hand penalty and Sebastian Klaas (86th) turned the game in Paderborn’s favor before Keke Topp (90th + 2) equalized for Schalke in stoppage time. Coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team gained one point over Hamburger SV in the relegation zone, but failed to catch up with HSV.

“We stopped playing after the 2-0 draw – with the 3-3 draw we showed morale but still lost two points. The ball hit my back. “It’s good that it worked,” said Topp on Sky about his late equalizer.

Hannover leaves points behind

Hannover 96 lost important points in the fight for promotion. The Lower Saxony team couldn’t get beyond a 1-1 (0-1) draw at SV Wehen Wiesbaden on Saturday and thus missed the jump to third place in the relegation zone. 96 only got two points from the last three games.

Ivan Prtajin scored the goal for SVWW in front of 10,089 spectators in the Brita Arena (33rd minute). On the side of the guests from Hanover, Andreas Voglsammer scored (54th).

The guests had more possession in the first half, but were ineffective going forward against the deep and compact hosts. The Hessians posed more of a goal threat, with Marcus Mathisen (23′) missing their first chance with a header. After SVWW took the lead through Prtajin, who put the ball over the line from six meters after an initially unsuccessful shot from Julius Kade to make it 1-0, Frank Kovacevic hastily missed a possible second goal in stoppage time.
