Kidambi Srikanth Dominates Swiss Open, Secures Semifinal Spot

NEW DELHI: Star Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth showcased his prowess at the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament, securing a spot in the semifinals with a commanding straight-game victory over Chinese Taipei’s Chia Hao Lee.

In his eighth tournament appearance this season, Srikanth regained momentum, marking his first semifinal appearance in 16 months with a dominant 21-10, 21-14 triumph over Lee, a feat he last achieved at the Hylo Open in November 2022.

Srikanth, a silver medallist at the 2021 World Championships, is set to face Chinese Taipei’s world no. 22, Lin Chun-Yi, in the semifinals scheduled for Saturday.

While Srikanth’s victory brought jubilation, it was a bittersweet outcome for Indian shuttlers Kiran George and Priyanshu Rajawat. George’s valiant effort came to an end with a hard-fought 23-21, 17-21, 15-21 loss against Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke in another quarter-final clash.

Meanwhile, Rajawat faced a formidable challenge against Chou Tien Chen, succumbing to a 15-21, 19-21 defeat in a 43-minute battle at the St. Jakobshalle stadium.

As Srikanth progresses to the semifinals, Indian hopes remain alive, with fans eagerly anticipating his quest for victory in the upcoming matches at the Swiss Open.
