Kevin Durant and Gregg Popovich: A Bond Beyond Basketball

The match between the Spurs and the Suns was an opportunity for Gregg Popovich to find some of the players with whom he experienced campaigns within Team USA. Kevin Durantin particular, who had only nice things to say about the San Antonio coach, whom he had already been able to observe from a reasonable distance when he was studying at the University of Texas.

« [Gregg Popovich] means a lot to me, to basketball and to the state of Texas. Playing here in Austin and attending many San Antonio games while in college, I saw the impact he has on the people of the area. I’ve always admired him from afar, but when you get into the league and you’re around him, you see the kind of person he is. He’s a real human being. There is no pretense, he is not playing a role. »

“And then having the opportunity to play with him and win a gold medal (at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics), it took my respect for him to the next level. So every time I want to hug him and tell him I love him. We are forever linked by this gold medal. He is a courageous man and a true friend. Someone I admire and respect enormously,” declared KD in comments captured by Benjamin Moubèche.

Kevin Durant will probably never play for Gregg Popovich in the NBA, but seeing the respect and admiration he has for him is honestly touching.
