Kansas City Chiefs Sign European Rugby Star Louis Rees-Zammit as Potential Offensive Threat

The Kansas City Chiefs have reached a deal with European rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit, ESPN reports, giving the team a potential new offensive threat.

The Chiefs would use Rees-Zammit as a running back and possibly a receiver. However, it is on special teams that he could have the most impact, particularly as a return specialist while the NFL has just revamped the rules governing its kickoffs.

Rees-Zammit, who is 23, announced in January that he would try to play in the NFL. He participated in theInternational Player Pathway Pro Day of the NFL last week and ran a 4.43 time in the 40-yard dash. Rees-Zammit, who hails from Wales, then visited several teams before signing a contract with the Chiefs.

For the first time this season, each team will have a 17th spot on their practice squad for an international player. Teams are also allowed to move an international player from the practice squad to the active squad a maximum of three times during the season, increasing player development opportunities and giving them an opportunity to play .
