A legend is leaving – the successor is ready!
For the first time in over 12 years, SC Freiburg has to worry about filling the head coach position due to the impending end of Christian Streich (58/will retire in the summer). “We will announce Christian Streich’s successor as soon as possible,” said sports director Jochen Saier (45).
What BILD already exclusively hinted at before the prank announcement is now imminent: Julian Schuster (38) will be the sports club’s next coach, according to BILD information! The official announcement could take place as early as Thursday.

The long-time Freiburg captain is currently the liaison coach between the professionals and the youth, and also takes care of some of the opponent and game analysis. He has had the pro trainer license for a few weeks and is now expected to take over directly in the Bundesliga from the summer. A mega promotion for Schuster – after all, he has never coached a team on his own responsibility. It is conceivable that, among others, long-time prank co Lars Voßler (48) will be placed at his side.

With Schuster, Freiburg continues to focus entirely on the internal approach. He enjoys a high reputation in the club: he still played with players like Höfler, Günter and Ginter. He accompanied young stars like Röhl, Weißhaupt and Sildillia on their way to the Bundesliga. And the bosses have also seen him as a future Bundesliga coach for a long time. Schuster knows the club inside and out. Has been there since 2008, first as a player, then in the coaching team and now soon as boss.
U23 coach Thomas Stamm was also a candidate; Urs Fischer (formerly Union), Fabian Hürzeler (St. Pauli), Lukas Kwasniok (Paderborn) and Tuchel co-worker Zsolt Löw were on the list as external solutions.
