Judo Competitions and Successes: A Recap of Recent Events

Competitions

At the beginning of February, Alycia Lohmann, Marlena Unruh and Jasper Hettwer, as newcomers to competition, were able to try out standing and floor competition situations in 11 to 12 Randoris with other judoka in their weight classes at the Elzer Randori tournament.

Two weeks later, when she was just 8 years old, Alycia was able to compete in her first competition at the U11 regional individual championship in Lauenau, where she took 5th place in her weight class. A week later we went straight back to the mat at the U11 district individual championship, where Alycia was able to score her first points and again achieved a great 5th place. In the fall she can take part in the regional and district championships together with Jasper in her actual age group of U9. Then Marlena will definitely be at the start in the U13.

In the U13, the team championships were scheduled for the two competition weekends. A team consists of up to seven judoka in seven different weight classes. Since the VTR cannot currently provide a team, Dominik Jesin, Paul Vogt and Szymon Wojciechowski joined forces with judoka from Victoria Lauenau and the judo division from Hohenbostel to form KG Deister. At the regional team championships, the fighting community still had to grow together and gain experience. Despite a lucky win against the VfL Grasdorf team and some great situations, we unfortunately only managed fifth place in the first team competition. Even though the conditions for the district championships were anything but good due to absences due to illness and accidents, the team surpassed itself. In the pre-pooled tournament, the judokas made it to the semi-finals after a win against Elze with a win from Szymon. There they were able to win again against VfL Grasdorf – also thanks to early victories from Dominik and Paul. In the final, the people from Rinteln and their fellow competitors lost to the Hanover judo team, which also has Olympic participants in the adult section. In the end we achieved a brilliant second place, which whetted our appetite for the national championships on April 13th. in Grasdorf.

Judoka were also able to achieve individual success outside of competition. Lasse Kersting successfully passed the yellow belt exam before the Easter holidays. Mohammad Kattie, Abouba and Maro Koulibali, Jonathan Möller, Davin Sitzmann, Lennard Söhlke and Jannik Unruh are happy about the white and yellow belt.

We congratulate all judoka on the placements and belt levels achieved. Keep it up!
