Video Jordi Meeus unexpectedly finished in third place in Ghent-Wevelgem. Before the start of the Flemish classic, the BORA-hansgrohe sprinter told the camera CyclingFlits that he had completely recovered from all ailments. “I am now focusing on Dwars door Vlaanderen,” Meeus told us at the time.

After a disappointing start to the season, when Meeus became seriously ill, the Limburger is now back to his old self. At least that’s what he said before the start of Gent-Wevelgem. “After the Opening Weekend I actually only rode Bruges-De Panne. There I rode for Sam Welsford. The feeling was very good there. I feel like I have fully recovered from the setbacks at the beginning of the season. The legs and shape are good.”

Meeus backed up his words by, somewhat surprisingly, finishing third in Gent-Wevelgem. He won the sprint of the peloton behind Mathieu van der Poel and Mads Pedersen by beating Jasper Philipsen, Jonathan Milan and Olav Kooij, among others. The BORA-hansgrohe spearhead thus put itself in the spotlight for the upcoming classics.

Paris-Roubaix is also a goal
The upcoming classics, we are mainly talking about Dwars door Vlaanderen. A course that Meeus himself also has in his sights. “That is a course I have set my sights on,” Meeus confided to us. “It is a little more difficult than Gent-Wevelgem and should suit me even better. We’ll see how far I can get there. After that, for me it is mainly a matter of looking towards Paris-Roubaix.”
