Jonathan Milan wins the stage and takes the lead of the Tirreno-Adriatico from Ayuso

BARCELONA, 7 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Italian cyclist Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) won this Thursday the fourth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, disputed between Arrone and Giulianova over 207 kilometers, by beating the Belgian Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and the New Zealander Corbin Strong in the sprint (Israel-Premier Tech) and, incidentally, become the leader and snatch the ‘azzurra’ from the Spanish Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates).

Another stage with the presence of water but this time there was no fall just before a sprint that was clean and that had another incredible ‘distraction’ in the pursuit of a Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility) who, escaping, was neutralized just a few minutes away. meters from the finish line.

The Norwegian fought against all odds to reach the finish line alone, but the peloton, despite pushing to the limit, in the end swallowed him up with the unstoppable force of some sprinters who fought side by side. No falls, no absences, no dangerous curves… In a wide and perfect straight to spread your legs.

And Jonathan Milan won, who in the third stage was second, behind Phil Bauhaus who this time was cut off and did not enter with the main group. In addition to the victory, the Italian continues to lead the points classification and, with the bonus at the finish line, he becomes the leader of the provisional general classification, with a 4-second margin over Ayuso, who remains the favorite to take the ‘Trident’.

With no prize for the breakaway, the change of leader gave a little more weight to a stage in which Milan and other sprinters had to suffer in the long climb at the first halfway point of the day. In the end, with steep terrain but without major climbs, the water also demanded a lot from a group that achieved the goal of reaching the end with the stage at stake.

Milan took a good line and didn’t care that others caught up with him. He was strong and wanted to get on the podium as stage winner, and he did so, beating Jasper Philipsen – winner of the second stage and fallen in the third -, Corbin Strong, Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) and Axel Zingle (Cofidis), with the Spanish Iván García Cortina (Movistar Team) eighth.
