Jonathan Christie grateful to be able to follow the steps Anthony Sinisuka Ginting to qualify for the semifinals All England 2024 on Saturday (16/3).

Jonathan got this certainty after winning over the second seed from China, Shi Yu Qi, 21-12 in the quarter-finals. Shi decided to withdraw in the second game.

With this, Indonesia has confirmed its two representatives in the last four of the BWF Super 1000 tournament this time.

Previously, Ginting had already secured a place in the semifinals of the All England Open 2024 after defeating the first seed from Denmark, Viktor Axelsen, in a tight battle in the last eight.

After the match, Jonathan paid tribute to Shi Yu Qi who was unable to continue playing due to physical problems.

“I give my respect and respect to Shi Yu Qi who played extraordinary last week. It is not easy to maintain condition and performance in back to back tournaments, Shi Yu Qi tried to do that until this match,” said Jonatan in a PP PBSI release.

Jonathan explained that Shi’s appearance in the first game was a little different from usual. He highlighted Shi’s speed movements which were unlike his previous performance.

“I asked why, he didn’t point to one point, but all of them, maybe he was very tired,” said Jonathan.

Jonathan said that this success was the result of struggle in the form of long training and discussions that he routinely carried out with the men’s singles team at every tournament.

“Our discussions in men’s singles are not only in this tournament. Every tournament we will have a meeting to discuss potential opponents,” said Jonatan.

“Maybe the results are now, in the last few tournaments the results have not been satisfactory. So there will definitely be an impact, we are better prepared and give each other input. Me, Ginting and even Chico (Aura Dwi Wardoyo). That input can become capital,” he added.

Jonathan and Ginting’s achievement also marks the first time that two Indonesian men’s singles have managed to qualify for the top four of the world’s oldest badminton tournament in the last 25 years.

The two men’s singles players are Taufik Hidayat and Budi Santoso. At that time, Taufik and Budi Santoso managed to reach the semifinals of the 1999 All England Open.
