Jonas Hummels Speaks Out Against Thomas Tuchel: “Clear Words”

Clear words from the Hummels brother!

Jonas Hummels (33), the brother of world champion and BVB star Mats Hummels, dealt a lot against coach Thomas Tuchel (50) in his role as an expert at DAZN after Bayern’s 2-2 draw in Freiburg.

Hummels told DAZN presenter Alex Schlüter directly after Tuchel’s coaching interview: “Now in the interview I found him relatively clear. Otherwise I find him sometimes cynical and sarcastic. Which I find funny because it’s my kind of humor. But as a player I don’t know. Not as an official anyway.”

And further: “If I were really, really angry, I would say he seemed a bit haphazard.”

But that’s not enough!

Hummels: “I ask myself why this can happen again and again. At an away game in Freiburg, they are coming from a phase where they have little success. (…) Why you can’t manage to set the structure yourself in a game like this. Why do you have to wait until halftime to change a three-man chain? To be honest, I don’t understand.”

And then: “Body language. He stays seated by the gates. Everyone cheers, he stays seated. Personally, I don’t like it, not at all.”

For Hummels one thing is certain: “It was definitely the right decision to part ways at the end of the season. The only question is: what to do between now and the end of the season.”

Tuchel himself had previously reacted angrily to DAZN’s start to the game.

Tuchel: “It wasn’t a good first half hour. We rightly fell behind, then played a good second half and lost our reward in the end.”

And further: “I don’t think it was a matter of will. It was undisciplined in the positions, it was partly hara-kiri. We had phases where our central defender overran the full-back.”
