John van ‘t Schip to Transition to New Role at Ajax Club Next Season

John van ‘t Schip (60) will no longer be head coach at Ajax next season. He will have a different role within the club, he said during a press conference.

John van ‘t Schip has been at the helm of Ajax since October, after the departure of Maurice Steijn.

After discussions during the international break, it became clear that Van ‘t Schip will no longer act as head coach next season, he will have a role within technical management.

“Alex Kroes (general manager of Ajax, ed.) is talking to a lot of people,” said Van ‘t Schip. “We also talked about my future.”

“I am stepping down as head coach. But we are talking about a different role for several years. Nothing is clear about that yet. I don’t want to talk about that now. I want to fully focus on the last 8 matches with Ajax. That is for me No problem.”

Van ‘t Schip did not want to say whether he would have liked to remain head coach of Ajax. “Then we start talking about ‘if this’ and ‘if that’, which makes no sense,” he said. “I’m communicating it now, but this was already clear to me.”

“When I signed for Ajax, I was actually going to support Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Kelvin de Lang and be an extension of the youth academy at De Toekomst. But things can change quickly in football. After this season I will speak to Kroes in detail again .”
