Joel Schwärzler’s Road to a Potential Milestone in Antalya

Joel Schwärzler could reach another milestone in Antalya.

The number one in the youth world rankings moves into the final of the ITF tournament in Antalya, Turkey. It is the 18-year-old’s first appearance in the final of an international adult tennis tournament.

In the semifinals, number 1061 in the ATP world rankings beat Sebastian Gima from Romania (ATP number 454) in two sets 7:5, 6:1. In the final, Schwärzler will face the top seeded Romanian Filip Cristian Jianu (ATP No. 311).

This means that the Harder native has not lost a set throughout the entire tournament. On the way to the final, he initially beat the Russian Denis Klok, followed by successes over Francesco Ferrari from Italy and the German Justin Engel.

In Antalya, Joel Schwärzler has the chance to become the youngest Austrian title holder since doubles specialist Alexander Peya in July 1998. In singles he could follow in the footsteps of Dominic Thiem, who also won his first title in May 2012 at the age of 18.
