Joel Embiid’s Recovery Progressing, Return Date Still Uncertain

The news about Joel Embiid’s recovery comes in dribs and drabs. The reigning MVP underwent surgery to repair his lateral meniscus tear on February 6 and, a month and a half later, he is already back on the court. At least in training. According to Shams Charania, the center returned to the facilities of the Sixers last Sunday to start working on the hardwood.

Since then, Embiid has done a lot of non-contact exercises and strength training to regain muscle mass. Tonight, the Sixers begin a four-game trip through the West in Phoenix. Meanwhile, his biggest star has stayed in Philadelphia to advance his recovery.

No news at the front

The first estimates of return after leaving the operating room pointed to a period of six to eight weeks. Which meant seeing him competing between March and April. Right now, the franchise almost certainly rules out the idea that this return will occur in the remainder of the month. They sense that Embiid will be ready at some point in April, but the exact date remains unknown.

The Sixers have plummeted since Embiid went down in combat. Right now they are sixth in the East, tied in the win column with the Pacers. Although they have one less defeat (38-30). Without him, the team is 9-13, the tenth worst record in the league in this stretch. Even so, according to Tankathon Philly has a somewhat friendlier schedule than Indiana and Basketball Reference gives them an 89% chance of qualifying for the playoffs. Date by which Embiid should be back or around the corner.
