Jannik’s smile: “I served and responded well”

“We prepared the match well. I think I served very well under pressure and also responded well.” This is how Jannik Sinner quickly summarized the keys to his clear success 63 64 over Jan-Lennard Struff, his 17th in a row. Thanks to this victory, Sinner reached at least the round of 16 for the fourth time in four participations in the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and completed the longest streak of successes for an Italian in the history of men’s tennis.

Facing an opponent like Struff, who he had never faced on court in his career, “is not easy, especially when the ball jumps as much as here. I knew he is a player with a powerful serve, who would try to score many winners therefore I tried to be at least as aggressive – added Sinner -. Preparing matches of this kind is difficult, because it is difficult to find someone with these characteristics to train with.”

However, Sinner obtained 76% of service points with the first serve, a higher percentage than the German’s yield with the second serve (73%). “When I face opponents like him I always try to make them move as much as possible – concluded Sinner -. He also moves well, however I managed to anticipate his moves”.
