Jannik Sinner dominates Christopher O’Connell and advances to the quarter-finals in Miami

After a tricky start to the match, Jannik Sinner ended up overcoming Christopher O’Connell in the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 in Miami on Tuesday. The Italian, number 3 in the ATP, was led in the first set, 3-1 then 4-2 by the Australian (66th) before lining up seven games in a row to fully return to the game, folded in two sets: 6-4, 6-4.

The Australian, whose first appearance at this stage of such a tournament, was in overdrive and ended up breaking down in a match interrupted ten minutes into the second set due to a spectator’s discomfort. That didn’t stop Sinner’s momentum as he scored a shutout behind to lead 3-0. Then, O’Connell still managed to win his serve to end a series of seven conceded games. Insufficient to disturb Jannik Sinner who qualified for his fourth consecutive quarter-final in Miami. The Italian will face the Czech Tomas Machac (60th).
