Jannik Sinner Continues Dominant Run in Indian Wells, Sets Sights on Next Opponent

Jannik Sinner can add another capital to his previous “Perfect Season 2024”.

On Wednesday night, the 22-year-old Italian brought the American Ben Shelton to his knees 7:6 (4), 6:1 in the round of 16 of the ATP 1000 tournament in Indian Wells and celebrated his 18th victory as a result.

For Sinner it is the 150th match win on hard court in his career – with 46 defeats. This makes him the first player born in the 2000s to reach this mark.

Sinner now against surprise man Lehecka

“It’s always difficult against Ben because you can hardly get a rhythm,” said Sinner, who is still unbeaten this year, after his victory over the US serve gunner. “I tried to always stay positive. There were tough moments, especially in the first set. I’m very happy that I won.”

Sinner, who recently won the title at the Australian Open and in Rotterdam and is accompanied by his father in Indian Wells, will now face the Czech Jiri Lehecka. The 22-year-old has already surprised in California with victories over Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
