Jannik Sinner reached the round of 16 at the Masters tournament in Miami. Things didn’t look good for the Pusterer for a while.

Jannik Sinner defeated the unpleasant Tallon Griekspoor (ATP 26) with 5:7, 7:5 and 6:1. The Pusterer had to turn a set down against the Dutchman. In addition, there was a 45-minute rain interruption in Miami in the second half when the score was 3:3. But Sinner kept his nerve, turned the game around against Griekspoor and then won his second match in Florida within 24 hours.

Sinner had a lot of trouble against Griekspoor. Just a few weeks ago, the South Tyrolean played against the 27-year-old in Rotterdam. Particularly noteworthy: Sinner had to turn a set deficit for only the second time this season. The other time this was the case in the Australian Open final against Daniil Medvedev, when the eventual champion had even lost the first two sets.

“It was a difficult match today. I was in a tricky situation – also because of the interruption. But I stayed focused. I think I managed that well,” said Sinner after his victory on Sunday evening. Anyway: Sinner is now in the round of 16 in Miami and will face the winner of the game between the young American Martin Damm (ATP 204) and the Australian Christopher O’Connell (ATP 66). This match takes place on Monday night.
