In the first set, Struff and De Minaur met at eye level, and the 33-year-old only had to admit defeat in the tiebreak. He then conceded the break in the second round when the score was 2:2. After that he was no longer able to turn the game around. De Minaur, seeded tenth, will now face Fabian Marozsan from Hungary.

Previously, Olympic champion Alexander Zverev beat Christopher Eubanks 7:6 (7:4), 6:3 and has to face Karen Khachanow in the next round. In the evening Yannick Hanfmann will meet Grigor Dimitrow from Bulgaria.
