Jakob Pöltl’s Playoff Drought Continues as Toronto Raptors’ Season Comes to an End

Austria’s NBA legionnaire is missing the crucial phase of the season with the Toronto Raptors. His personal playoff drought is extended.

For the Toronto Raptors and Austria’s NBA legionnaire Jakob Pöltl, the 2023/24 season definitely ends on April 14th. That has been clear since the 101:145 on Wednesday (local time) against the New York Knicks. The club of Viennese Jakob Pöltl, who is convalescing after a finger operation, theoretically no longer has a chance of reaching the play-in of the North American professional basketball league. The play-in offers the last chance to make it into the play-offs. Toronto suffered its twelfth defeat in a row against New York, its 50th of the season and, not least, the worst in its history in front of its own audience.

It seems questionable whether Pöltl will still be used in the Canadians’ remaining nine games. The center trains lightly and without contact with the right hand, while the left hand with the operated little finger is spared. Austria’s pioneer in the strongest basketball league in the world last played against Charlotte on March 3rd. In his first three NBA seasons – twice with the Raptors and once with the San Antonio Spurs – Pöltl made it to the play-offs. He has always missed them since 2020. (red/ag.)
