“It’s disabled sport, we’re not here to entertain the gallery”: one of the boxers reacts after the cancellation of the fight between dwarves in Toulouse

Katia Baric, Toulouse vice-president of the Association of Small People and Occitanie regional delegate, described the event as a “degrading spectacle” and the minister in charge of the elderly and disabled people, Fadila Khattabi, “condemned firmly” this evening. It is an understatement to say that the “dwarf fight” which was to take place on April 11 in a nightclub in Blagnac, in the suburbs of Toulouse, before being canceled in the face of this “bad buzz”, had caused a reaction .

A controversy that Pika, one of the two fighters, does not really understand. “The fact that it takes place in a nightclub, I can understand that it’s shocking. But people took it as a mockery or a spectacle when it is boxing, disabled sport. It’s not to amuse the gallery,” assures this 33-year-old resident of Millau (Aveyron).

“There are international competitions in the discipline”

While he had already participated, last October, in what he himself describes as a “show” in this same Toulouse night establishment, Pika regrets the excitement around this real fight against the French champion of the category, Salim Chiboub. He has also put his event activity on hold to devote himself to boxing. “I’m very competitive and I’ve always wanted to do boxing. For some time now, I have been giving myself the means to climb the ladder,” he explains.

Not aware of the decree taken by the town hall of Blagnac (Haute-Garonne) in order not to host this fight, he still hopes to face his opponent, “who is also a friend”, on Saturday April 13 in a real room , with a real ring. “There are international competitions in the discipline. We must not stop ourselves from doing this sport. »
