Once upon a time there was the Italian Championship or at least the prestige of winning it. The current formula, however, does not seem to please the athletes who preferred not to race in Forni di Sopra, preferring the great late winter classics to the Italian race. The fact is that Giulia Compagnoni, first at the finish line over Dimitra Theocharis and Giovanni Rossi who managed to keep Andrea Prandi and Nicolò Canclini behind them will return home from this trip without a title.
There’s no point in further controversy, we’ve said and reiterated several times that the racing world doesn’t work like this. There’s no need to point it out, it would be a bit like “shooting the Red Cross”. However, it comes to mind that going back to having the under 23s race with the seniors as was done in the past is a choice that should be proposed again for two simple reasons: it would be stimulating for the young people and it would have allowed us to have a minimum number of athletes for the competitions to be valid .
After this bitter premise we pay tribute to the young people who won the title. The 2024 Italian sprint champions are: Giorgia Pollini (Brenta Team) and Gioele Improveti (Presolana) in the under 16s, Vanessa Marca (Bagolino) and Enrico Pellegrini (cai Schio) in the under 18s, Cliazia Vallet (Corrado Gex) and Leonardo Taufer (Valdobbiadene) in the under 20s and Lisa Moreschini (Fiamme Gialle), Luca Tomasoni (Army) in the under 23s.
