Italian Judoka Shine in Grand Prix Upper Austria 2024 – Esposito and Pedrotti take the spotlight

The curtain fell on a great day for Italian judo in the Grand Prix Upper Austria 2024, in progress a Linz until tomorrow, Sunday 10 March, and valid as a competition that awards a maximum of 700 points for the Olympic qualification rankings towards the Paris 2024 Games.

Well, from this point of view, the spoils were full Antonio Esposito, triumphant in the -81 kg. A winning ride by the athlete from Campania who began his adventure by facing and beating the Irishman Maxim Tripleand then prevailed against the British Lachlan Moorhead e the Belgian Jarne Duyck. In the latter case, Esposito brought down the curtain after just 37″ with the ippon.

In the semi-final the opponent was the Portuguese João Fernando and here too the match was decided by a great throw from the Italian judoka, which earned the ippon after 1’53”. In the final act, the blue’s opponent was the Pole Pawel Drzymal and the ippon also arrived in this case, after a match in which the athlete from the Bel Paese imposed his judo, given 2 shido against Drzymal.

Very good too Irene Pedrotti in the -70 kg. The Italian made her way into her own pool by beating the Chinese Taipei Yu-Lung LiaoSlovenian Anka Pogačnik and especially Japanese Moka Kuwagata. A comparison, the latter, decided at the Golden Score due to the third shido. Having qualified in the Final Block, our rider first beat the Bosnian Aleksandra Samardzic and then in the final act she had to give in to the Puerto Rican Maria Perez. At the Golden Score the ippon did not smile at the Italian one.
