Italian Ju Jitsu Champions Shine at International Tournament in Maribor

Great performance at the “international ju jitsu tournament” held in Maribor which on the two days of Saturday and Sunday 23/24 March saw over four hundred practitioners compete on four tatamis. There were also about ten Italian clubs at the competition, including Judo Ju Jitsu Novara with Giuseppe di Chio reigning Italian champion won last month in the Federation’s headquarters in Ostia Lido, which certainly did not disappoint expectations.

The Novarese standard bearer in the 85 kg senior category, with eight participants also made up of “big guns”, including the reigning world champion and the world vice champion (who then ranked first and 2nd place) played three matches to find themselves in the final for 3rd or 5th place, with the Swiss national athlete beating by a large margin. Great satisfaction therefore, but above all loud applause from the Italian athletes belonging to the other clubs in seeing an Italian climb to the third step of the podium. Juniors MARCO SALDI and ELEONORA COPPA (first in the national ranking of seniors 63 kg) were supposed to participate in the competition, having been stopped by injuries.

Even if less important, the trip to the “Luca Fincato di judo” trophy in Castelletto Ticino which took place on Sunday should also be highlighted, where there were AMBRA PLACENTINO (2nd place) AARON BARBAGLIA 5th; FEDERICO COMITO 7th; MATTEO VENDOLA 13th (all cadets), and PIETRO MAIRATE 5th in the rookies.
