Super Italia at the European Indoor Championships in Varazdin, Croatia. On the day of the team finals the Azzurri won 9 medals including 3 golds with the two naked arch teams and with the juniors of the compound. To this loot are added 4 silvers and 2 bronzes. THE RESULTS OF THE OLYMPIC ARC
The Italian men’s team at the Olimpico (Mauro Nespoli, Alessandro Paoli and Matteo Borsani) stopped in the final for the title against Ukraine (Kozhokar, Ruban, Usach), beaten 5-3. The match starts well for the Azzurri who win the first set 59-56, but are then overtaken by their opponents who take the subsequent volleys 58-57 and 59-58, and finally close the match with a draw, with a decisive “10” all ‘last arrow, the fourth set 58-58.
Second place also for the women’s team: Lucilla Boari, Chiara Rebagliati and Tatiana Andreoli lost the final 5-1 against Ukraine (Hayp, Pavlova, Tretiakova). The balance lasts only one set (57-57) then the Eastern European girls border on perfection with eleven arrows out of twelve on “10” and the victory of the two sets 59-54 and 60-58.
THE RESULTS OF THE JUNIOR OLYMPIC ARC
Silver medals also for Chiara Compagno, Ginevra Landi and Lucia Mosna who surrendered 5-1 to Ukraine (Chebotarenko, Chernyk, Koval) among the juniors. The opponents start off strong and win the first two sets 56-55 and 58-56, the Italians try to stay in the match and raise the level of their performance but it’s not enough because the third volley ends at 58-58.
The men’s 21 men’s team made up of Riccardo Alfano, Francesco Pernice and Emiliano Rampon finished in fourth place. The Italians beat Belgium 5-1 (Collas, Stinkens, Van Dun) after drawing the first volley 56-56. The Belgians then accelerate and leave no room for Italy, beaten 58-54 and 58-57 in the second and third sets.
THE RESULTS OF THE COMPOUND
Andrea Nicole Moccia, Elisa Roner and Marcella Tonioli came very close to victory, surrendering in the challenge for the women’s compound gold to Great Britain (Chappell, Gibson, Wood) only at the shoot-off 232-232 (30-28). The Italians immediately went behind (57-58) but then reversed the situation with 59-57 on the second volley. An advantage that doesn’t last, the British put everything back into balance with 58-59 in the third set while the last set ended 58-58. Thus we go to the three playoff arrows where Gibson and her teammates are perfect and only leave the silver to Italy.
Bronze instead went to Marco Bruno, Valerio Della Stua and Michea Godano who beat Portugal (Alves, Carvalho, Pereira Baptista) 236-230. The Azzurri’s approach to the match was decisive as they placed all the first twelve arrows on 10 and took a large lead: 60-56 and 60-58. The remaining volleys end 58-58 and are worth the podium for the Italian selection.
THE RESULTS OF THE JUNIOR COMPOUND TEAMS
The third gold of the morning’s matches comes from the junior compounds Fabrizio Aloisi, Lorenzo Gubbini and Andrea Marchetti, also playing with Croatia and also winning 233-227. The match is balanced but the Italians find the winning streak in the first and third sets (57-56, 59-57) while the second ends in a draw (58-58). In the last six arrows there is no room for the opponent’s comeback, Italy accelerates again (59-56) and takes the continental title.
The under 21 women’s trio with Martina Del Duca, Giulia Di Nardo and Martina Serafini wins the bronze thanks to the success against Croatia (Arapovic, Brobnjak, Medimurec) 232-224. The Italians started off very strong, gaining an excellent advantage in the first three sets which ended 59-55, 56-55 and 60-56 with a perfect third volley with arrows only on the “10”. The last six shots reward Croatia 58-57 but the margin is too wide and Italy climbs onto the third step of the podium.
DOUBLE BLUE GOLD IN THE BARE BOW
The blue dominance continues in the bare bow. Cinzia Noziglia, Fabia Rovatti and Alessandra Bigogno win gold by sweeping away Romania (Bacin, Mogos, Topliceanu) with a clear 6-0. The match is without history, the Italians win the first set 45-38, have to fight harder to take the second (55-53) and then close the score in the third 55-51.
Same result for the men: Giuseppe Seimandi, Simone Barbieri and Valter Basteri easily beat Croatia (Curic, Marosevic, Velagic) 6-0 and deserve the gold medal. Also in this case it is Italian dominance with scores of 53-50, 55-48 and 50-48 which clearly illustrate the superiority of the Italian national team.
