Isaiah Hartenstein won the German duel with world champion Dennis Schröder on Saturday evening and took the next step towards the playoffs with his New York Knicks. The 25-year-old had 17 points and ten rebounds in the 105:93 win in the city duel against the Brooklyn Nets.
In 26 minutes on the floor, Hartenstein shot 8/10 from the field and also collected a strong four steals and two blocks. The outstanding thrower of the game was his teammate Donte DiVincenzo with 31 points.
In a long, close game, the score was 80-80 early in the final quarter before the Knicks went on a 12-0 run. As a starter, Dennis Schröder had nine points (4/14 FG) and seven rebounds in 34 minutes. Three blocks were also a career best. The Nets’ best thrower was Cam Thomas (19 points).
The Knicks are just one win behind the third-place Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA’s Eastern Conference with a 42-28 record.
The Nets and Schröder, on the other hand, are increasingly losing their skins after their sixth defeat in a row, finishing eleventh in the East with 26:45 victories. The Atlanta Hawks in tenth place, which would still be enough to take part in the play-in tournament, have 30:39 wins and still have two more games in hand.
