The Peruvian Institute of Sports (IPD), through the National Directorate of Recreation and Promotion of Sports (DNRPD), closed the ‘IPD Academy 2024 – Summer’ program, with a sports festival held at the Canto Grande Sports Complex, in San Juan de Lurigancho.

The activity was attended by the president of the IPD, Guido Flores Marchan; the director of the DNRPD, Carlos Garrido; the commissioner of Bayóvar, Ronny Arroyo; in addition to the former soccer player, José Luis Carranza; the boxer Alberto Rossel, and the member of the karate team, Ingrid Aranda.

“It is a pleasure for the IPD to share with the parents and students of the Academy. We have more than 7 thousand participants in Lima and more than 14 thousand nationwide. The Academy has two purposes, massive recreation and promoting the development of sporting talents. That is why this property becomes a symbol, because the largest number of registered people is concentrated,” said Guido Flores, president of the IPD.

The head of the IPD also announced that the Winter Academy will begin in March, for which he called for the participation of minors from all IPD headquarters in the capital.

In Lima, the ‘IPD 2024 Academy – Summer’ benefited a total of 7,326 participants, who received instruction in the 8 sports complexes of the capital: Canto Grande, Estadio Nacional, Los Olivos, Carabayllo, La Victoria, San Borja, San Juan de Miraflores and Santa Anita.

At the national level, the ‘IPD 2024 Academy – Summer’ had 14,535 minors registered in 19 disciplines: athletics, basketball, boxing, canoeing, soccer, gymnastics, judo, karate, kickingball, weightlifting, swimming, para-swimming, para-athletics , pickleball, rugby, taekwondo, field tennis, table tennis and volleyball.

The IPD Academy’s main objective is the development of basic and specific motor skills of girls, boys and adolescents from 6 to 17 years old.

Sport provides children and young people with a constructive and healthy activity to occupy their free time, reducing the likelihood of them becoming involved in criminal activities due to boredom or lack of options.
