Injury Woes Continue for Lukas Nmecha: A Season to Forget

Lukas Nmecha was only able to play four competitive games in the current season. The Wolfsburg striker is repeatedly slowed down by injuries – and now has to take a longer break again.

Lukas Nmecha only celebrated his season debut in mid-February in Wolfsburg’s draw against Borussia Dortmund and also played in the final phase of the following two games. In the defeat against VfB Stuttgart, he even scored his first goal of the season in the Bundesliga as a joker – and gave the Wolfsburg supporters hope that they were finally over the mountain.

Recurring pattern: The peak is followed by the fall

A hope that quickly came to an end just three weeks later: the 25-year-old striker injured himself again during training. According to the club, Nmecha has suffered a muscle injury in his thigh and will be out for several weeks.

Nmecha, who has repeatedly been set back by injuries in recent years, has so far had a season to forget. While he had opened the scoring against TuS Makkabi Berlin in the DFB Cup (6-0) at the start of the round in the DFB Cup, the first round game also destroyed any euphoria: the seven-time national player had to be substituted early on and was missing due to a patellar tendon injury into February.

Now Nmecha will most likely miss not only the debut of new coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, but also the final phase of the season, in which VfL finds itself in a relegation battle due to a winless streak that has lasted eleven games.
