World number one Iga Świątek was surprisingly eliminated in the round of 16 in Miami. The Pole, who recently won the start of the “Sunshine Double” in Indian Wells, lost to the Russian Yekaterina Alexandrowa 4:6, 2:6. “I’m disappointed because I thought I would play better here,” Świątek said after the game.
In fact, the 22-year-old had already struggled in the round of 16 and lost the first set in the tiebreak against Linda Noskova – the player she had already defeated at the Australian Open. Now the end came one lap later.
