Iga Swiatek in semi-finals at Indian Wells after Caroline Wozniacki retires

Iga Swiatek is in the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells, and if she did not have to go to the end of her match against Caroline Wozniacki, she nevertheless had to work. Too bad for the spectators, the show came to a premature end due to an injury to the Dane’s right foot. But until then, the comeback had regularly upset the world No. 1.

Not satisfied with her quality of ball, Swiatek let herself get stuck in Wozniacki’s web in the first set. Always covering her line wonderfully, the 33-year-old forced the Pole to often hit too many shots. And as she was very aggressive, she was the first to break.

But Swiatek immediately erased his delay. By focusing on her returns, she forced Wozniacki into long service games which ended up overcoming her resistance. Back at 4-4, the Pole pushed her opponent to her limits for a second break before concluding with her serve.

The hardest part was done since Wozniacki requested a medical timeout at the start of the second set to have his right foot treated. The next game, she gave up. Swiatek will face the Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, who defeated the Russian Anastasia Potapova a little earlier (6-0, 7-5), in the semi-finals.
