After a goalless first 30 minutes, the game picked up speed in Bolzano in front of 5,500 fans. Dennis Robertson gave the guests from Salzburg the lead (33′), which Domenico Alberga equalized for the “Füchse” in the majority (39′). But it only took 14 seconds before Thomas Raffl put the “Bulls” back in front (39th). Paul Huber made the decision in the final third (51st). This means the series between last year’s two finalists is wide open again at 1-1.

“It was difficult as always in Bolzano, but today we carried out our game plan well,” said goalscorer Huber after the match. Salzburg’s motto was to use a good forecheck, block the goalie’s view and get a lot of shots on goal. “We were even more determined today than we were last time in Salzburg, and that’s what brought us victory.”

Pustertal is coming back again

In Bruneck, the 3,100 spectators in the sold-out Intercable Arena saw a failed first third by the hosts. Manuel Ganahl (10th) and a double strike by Matt Fraser (18th) and Lukas Haudum (18th) within 29 seconds ensured the Carinthians took a reassuring lead. After a goalless middle third, the “Wolves” from Pustertal came back again.

David Morley (41st) and Mats Frycklund (57th) made it 2:3. An empty-net goal from Clemens Unterweger 23 seconds before the end secured the KAC’s second victory. “We are working very well as a team at the moment. Everyone goes to great lengths for each other,” said Unterweger after the game. For Pustertal it was the first home defeat since February 13th. On Sunday, Klagenfurt has home advantage (5.30 p.m.) as does Salzburg against Bozen (6.30 p.m.).
