Ice hockey: KAC and Linz equalize in the quarterfinals

The Klagenfurt team got off to a good start in Vorarlberg. Although Nicholas Petersen’s skate hit was initially disallowed (5th), a little later Finn van Ee put the guests from Carinthia in the front (12th). As a result, a competitive game developed with high tempo, strong defensive lines and a lot of emotions, which repeatedly resulted in smaller arguments.

However, neither team managed to score again; in a wild final phase, KAC goalie Sebastian Dahm secured the shut-out and thus the victory. “We were well structured defensively and put more on goal in the attacking third,” said winning goalscorer van Ee, comparing the 2-0 defeat in the first game.

Linz takes down Salzburg

Linz lost 4-0 in game one in Salzburg, which made the first home game for the Upper Austrians in this quarter-final series all the more pleasing. In front of 4,500 spectators, Nico Feldner gave the hosts, who set the tone in the first third, the lead after 74 seconds. At the end of the second period, Logan Roe made it 2-0 (39th) when they were outnumbered after a mistake by the guests.

GEPA/Christian Moser After the 0-4 defeat in the first game, the Linz team successfully took revenge on Salzburg

But even before the half-time siren, Salzburg scored a double blow. Thomas Raffl scored with the advantage twelve seconds before the end of the period, and just seven seconds later Lucas Thaler equalized the game (40th). The Black Wings were not shocked and struck back in the final third through Brian Lebler’s power play (45′). That was enough to tie the score in the quarterfinals.

VSV fights in vain against Bozen

However, there was nothing for VSV to gain in the second game against the South Tyroleans. Brad McClure gave the visitors an early lead (2′), which Dustin Gazley extended half an hour later (31′). The Villachers countered in the power play, Robert Sabolic shortened the score (35′). In the final third, Joshua Teves restored the two-goal jump (54’/PP). But John Hughes made things exciting again for Villach with his goal to make it 2-3 (56th). Gazley had the last word again, scoring into an empty goal (60′).
