Ibizan Athlete Alejandro Prats Palau Crowned Best Athlete of Ibiza in 2023

The motorboating world championship has led the Ibizan Alejandro Prats Palau to be recognized as the best athlete on the island of Ibiza in 2023. The young man, the best on the planet in the Runabout GP4 category, was the main protagonist of the gala of the Sports Awards of Council of Ibizaheld this Friday night at the Fairgrounds, within the feria Expo Touribisport, inaugurated in the morning. “The jury has valued the sporting feat achieved by Prats Palau,” indicates the institution in relation to the world championship held in the Italian city of Olbia, from where he returned as the great winner.

In addition to Prats Palau, the Consell recognized the work of teams, athletes, sponsors and institutions. The award for the best natural person went to Juan Mesa Guerrero, the popular ‘Labi’. “He has been one of the people who has promoted football the most on the island, in addition to acting as an ambassador of Ibiza, linking his name to the sport,” highlights the Consell, which emphasizes that thanks to Mesa they have been able to “organize charity matches and bring elite footballers closer to the youngest of the island. “He has also promoted a veteran soccer team that shows that there is no age for playing soccer,” the institution concludes.

The best sports federation of 2023 was lthe Balearic Federation of Bádminton and the best sports team, the senior of the Peña Independent Sports Association. The award for best club was awarded to Basketball Club Sant Antonoh and finallyServicios Palau won the award for the best sponsoring entity “for its invaluable help to Ibizan clubs.”

At the gala, the already announced special mentions were awarded to Julius Gonzalez Rodriguez “in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to promoting boxing in Ibiza”, to the Judo without barriers program of the Club Dojo Ibiza for “the work of promoting the integration of sport in people with functional diversity, and to the Club Náutico Ibiza. “In recognition of his work in promoting sea sports,” the Ibiza Council clarifies.

During the ceremony, the achievements achieved by 31 Ibiza athletes in their respective disciplines, from athletics to volleyball, were also awarded. Of the 31, nine were women.

During the closing of the gala, the president of the Ibiza Council, Vicent Marí, stated that Ibiza “is an island of sports”, something demonstrated by the “important sporting events” it hosts. In the same way, he encouraged the island’s sports community to continue competing in sportsmanship: “Fleeing from violent attitudes that tarnish sport and that have nothing to do with the values ​​that all of you represent today.”
