Hurkacz did it again! A murderous fight for the quarterfinals in Miami Tennis

Tuesday’s round of 16 match: Hubert Hurkacz (9th ATP) – Grigor Dimitrov (12th ATP, Bulgaria) ended in the best possible scenario for the fans and in the way that Poles often end sets, i.e. with a tie-break. By then, they had both won by a combined score of 102 points! In the tie-break, the key moment was when the score was 2:2 and Hurkacz’s serve. Then he reached the ball at the net and hit the ball successfully, but the referee whistled that the Pole had touched the net with his foot. Hurkacz was furious, he didn’t believe the referee (he was right), he threw his racket. However, it didn’t change anything because he lost a point. Then he couldn’t concentrate and lost the tie-break 3-7.

Hurkacz’s thriller in Miami. The tie-break decided again

Hubert Hurkacz is having a bad streak this year. He did not advance to the finals in any of the six tournaments. He was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, the semifinals in Marseille, the second round in Rotterdam, the quarterfinals in Dubai and after the first meeting in Indian Wells.

The best Polish tennis player fought to break his bad streak in the prestigious ATP 1000 tournament on hard courts in Miami. The Pole had to play three sets in the first two rounds (against Aleksander Shevchenko and Sebastian Korda). Now it happened again.

The first set of the match: Hurkacz – Dimitrov was equal to 3:3. From that moment on, the Pole, who had lost all four previous clashes with the Bulgarian, five years older than him (in Indian Wells, Monte Carlo, Rotterdam and Paris), won three games in a row! Hurkacz skillfully, but with difficulty, guarded his service games. In two of the five he won by advantage. The Pole had fewer winners in this set (8-14), but also fewer unforced errors (5-9).

The second set was again decided by only one break. This time it was won by the Bulgarian in the sixth game. Then the Pole was unable to make up for the losses and lost 3:6. He again had fewer winners (7-14) and the same number of unforced errors (4 each).

Then there was the third set and tie-break, which we described above.

In the quarterfinals, Dimitrov will face in a blockbuster clash with the second-placed player in the world ranking – Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated Italian Lorenzo Musetti (24th ATP) 6:3, 6:3.
