Welcome back to Uzbekistan and in its capital Tashkent, for the third and final day of the Tashkent 2024 Judo Grand Slam. Good news before the competitions even begin: the world junior championships this year they will be held in Tajikistan.

I won two gold medals at the Humo Arena, in big tournaments, and this makes me really happy” said Turoboyev after receiving the medal from Azizjon Kamilovpresident of the Judo Federation of Uzbekistan.

Judo women in Tashkent: Japanese gold in the -78 kg category

Was Rika Takayama to win the title under 78 kilograms, beating Fanny Estelle Posivite in the final. The Japanese judoka felt the warmth of the arena, she confessed with the medal received from the general director of the IJF around her neck, Vlad Marinescu.

“The spectators here in Tashkent they cheered great, with musical instruments. I wasn’t sure if they were cheering for me or not, but they sure motivated me,” Takayama said.

Golds at the Judo Grand Slam in Uzbekistan also for Greece and China

In the under 90 kilogram class the Greek Theodoros Tselidis and the Bulgarian Ivaylo Ivanov thrilled the audience. The victory went to the first thanks to due waza-ari which earned him the most prestigious medal, presented to him by the general secretary of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Oybek Kasimov.

The Chinese Xin Su however, she got the better of Japanese Ruri Takahashi in the women’s plus 78 kilogram final. A legend of international judo and now head referee of the IJF, the South Korean Ki-Yong Jeonpresented the medals.

Japan made up for it with the men’s triumph in the over 100 kilo competition, with Hyoga Ota who beat Tamerlan Bashaev, receiving the gold from the IJF treasurer, Al Tamimi.

Next stop of international judo in Austria on March 8th

The Uzbek judokas showed energy throughout the competition, to the delight of the fans who were delirious for every ippon on the tatami. The apothesis of the final day arrived with that of Davlat Bobonovperhaps one of the best moves of the tournament which earned him a bronze.

The judo spectacle is now moving from Uzbekistan to Austria. The appointment is at Grand Prix Upper a Linz, in Austria.
