Hein Vanhaezebrouck: Staying True to Gent, Rejecting Club Brugge Transfers

During his weekly press chat, Hein Vanhaezebrouck left no room for misunderstanding: the rumors about a possible transfer to Club Brugge can be thrown into the trash. At least for the time being, because the door still seems to be ajar.

According to the coach of AA Gent, it is impossible to move directly to the arch-rival simply out of respect for his previous employer. After everything he has been through with the club, Vanhaezebrouck clearly cherishes his unique bond with the Buffaloes.

Vanhaezebrouck leaves Ghent

He sees himself as the ‘chief Indian’ and hopes that the successes achieved under his reign will one day return to the KAA Gent Arena. That will probably have to happen without Vanhaezebrouck, whose contract expires after this season.

New owner Sam Baro does not seem to intend to sign him any longer. “Have I heard anything yet? No (laughs). It’s very quiet now. I don’t expect anything. I am a trainer here until the end of the season,” Vanhaezebrouck said on Friday that he was in limbo.

Not going to Bruges (for the time being)?

For the time being it remains a matter of guessing what the future will bring, but knocking Ronny Deila off his chair in Jan Breydel is certainly not an option. “It is absolutely not my intention to succeed him. Not now and not next year either,” Vanhaezebrouck speaks very clearly in that regard.

“If you have worked in Ghent all those years, you will not go to Bruges the next year. Maybe not even at all. We will see about that, but that chance is rather small because you have built something up with this club and supporters,” it seems. he cannot rule anything out after a stopover.
