TBV Lemgo Lippe missed its third win in a row in the handball Bundesliga. At the MT Melsungen on Friday evening, the Lippers only lost in the final seconds.

On the 26th matchday, the TBV lost in Melsungen with 25:26 (11:13). This means that coach Florian Kehrmann’s team slipped to tenth place in the table with 21:31 points. MT Melsungen, on the other hand, is now in fourth place in the table with 35:17 points.

Lemgo’s Emil Lærke was the best scorer of the game with seven goals. Otherwise, no Lemgo player scored more than three times. Goalkeeper Finn Zecher showed a strong performance, making six strong saves in 21 minutes of action. The Melsunger’s best thrower was Dainis Kristopans with five goals. The outstanding man for the hosts was goalkeeper Nebojsa Simic with ten saves.

Slow start from both teams

It took more than four minutes for a team to even score. And that was the TBV Lemgo Lippe in the person of Lukas Zerbe. It was also Zerbe who scored to make it 4-2 after around ten minutes. After that, Lemgo’s dominance was over. Thanks to a strong Simic in goal, MT Melsungen was able to pull away. Erik Balenciaga scored 9:6 for the hosts after 20 minutes.

Although the TBV was able to reduce the lead to 11:10 again through Frederik Simak, Melsungen was ahead again by two goals at the break (13:11). Curious: No player on either side was able to score more than two goals in the first half.

Melsungen comes out of the cabin more energetically

The first minutes after the break belonged to the hosts again. Lemgo couldn’t get past Simic twice, while on the other side Melsungen showed significantly more momentum in the attack. Elvar Jonsson scored 16:11 (33rd). Melsungen seemed to have the game under control. But a goalkeeper change at TBV Lemgo Lippe had an effect: Zecher was now between the posts and made four strong saves within a few minutes. Because he also saved Dimitri Ignatow’s seven-meter penalty, TBV came back into the game.

Leve Carstensen and Jan Brosch missed the best chances of equalizing. Instead, Ivan Martinovic scored from seven meters to make it 19:17 for Melsungen (46th). As a result, the goalkeepers were the focus again. Melsungen maintained the lead, but TBV stayed in the game.

Theilinger scores the equalizer, Kristopans scores the decision

Ten minutes before the end, TBV coach Kehrmann took a time out. But the subsequent superiority was of no use to Lemgo at first. Also because Lipper received several time penalties, Lemgo did not come close. Thanks to goalkeeper Simic, Melsungen maintained its two-goal lead until the final phase. But then Melsungen committed a serious offensive foul, which Nicolai Theilinger took advantage of to equalize 25:25 with 20 seconds left.

But Melsungen had the last attack – and it went over the 2.15 meter man Kristopans. The Melsunger prevailed at the circle and turned the ball flat into the Lemgo goal with six seconds left to decide.

The TBV continues with a home game against THW Kiel on Easter Sunday (6 p.m.). MT Melsungen will be guests at HSV Hamburg on Easter Monday (4.30 p.m.).
