Guanajuato Goalkeeper Matías Grande Qualifies for Paris 2024 Olympics

Mexico City, Mexico.- Guanajuato sport has one more qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, it is the goalkeeper Matías Grande, who dominated each of the filters of the national selection of the specialty carried out at the National Center of Development of Sports Talents and High Performance (CNAR) of the country’s capital.

Grande Kalionchiz was the master of this process, accounting for a total of 513 units. It should be noted that 12 competitors attended the final event, six from each branch, but only the best three in the ranking managed to establish themselves in the Mexican team that, in addition to the summer competition, will also be taking part in the Pan American Championship on Colombian soil and the serial of World Cups.

Those who will accompany “Guanajua” as members of the Aztec representative will be Javier Rojas from Queretaro and Bruno Martínez from Coahuila, both finishing with 435 and 261 points, respectively. With the men, the big surprise was the elimination of the Olympic medalist in Tokyo 2020, Luis “El Abuelo” Álvarez, who was left six units below Martínez. Those who also said goodbye to the dream called Paris 2024 were Emilio Treviño and Saúl Pech.

Likewise, in the women’s branch, Alejandra Valencia from Sonora led the classification with 522 units, followed by Ángela Ruiz with 449 and Ana Paula Vázquez with 325. But if in the men’s team there was one or another unexpected result, the ladies were no longer left behind. that Aida Román from Puebla and Mariana Avitia from Monterrey will also not be able to attend the upcoming Olympic Games, being two of the most experienced archers in the nation and even already with medals in the greatest event in international sport.

In this way, in the case of Matías Grande, he already has his foray into the individual modality in the bag, now remaining with Rojas and Martínez the Olympic quota in the team event and to achieve this he will have up to three opportunities, first in the continental competition in Medellín, then in the World Cup in Turkey or, via the list managed by the International Federation (World Archery).

After this result, Grande is confirmed as the new face of Mexican archery, remembering that last year she was a double medalist at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile and a World Cup finalist.
