Five months before the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Christian Coleman dominated his American compatriot Noah Lyles this Friday, during the 60m final at the world indoor championships in Glasgow.

Christian Coleman won the 60-meter final of the indoor world championships in Glasgow on Friday evening in 6.41 seconds, just ahead of his compatriot Noah Lyles at the end of a highly anticipated duel between the two American sprinters.

Coleman, world record holder for the distance, won his first individual international title at the age of 27 since his victory at the Doha World Championships over 100 meters in 2019 and his suspension the following year for breaches of anti-doping regulations. “It’s incredible”reacted Coleman just after his victory (6.41 sec, best world performance of the year). “I never take these competitions for granted and I wanted to put on a show.”

Failed bet for Lyles

Second in 6.44 seconds, one hundredth of his personal best, Lyles concluded his first world championships with a silver medal but did not succeed in his bet: that of winning world gold in a discipline in which he has long been less competitive but where it has made dazzling progress this winter. A three-time reigning outdoor world champion in Budapest in 2023, Lyles is aiming for a similar hat-trick at the Paris Olympics this summer.
