German Judokas Shine with Three Medals on the Final Day of Grand Slam Competition

The third day of competition brought a good conclusion to the Grand Slam with three medals.

Alina Böhm (JZ Heubach – BW) wins four fights all early with holding techniques and stays well under two minutes in all fights. In the semifinals she repeated the fight against the Chinese Zhenzhao Ma, which she had already won in Tbislisi a week earlier with a holding technique. “Alina showed very good judo and always made short work of it until the semi-finals,” says women’s national coach Claudiu Pusa. Madeleine Malonga, the former world champion and Olympic silver medalist from France, is waiting in the final. “She had a good start against Malonga, but then let herself be grabbed and fell backwards onto Ippon,” says Claudiu Pusa. She wins the silver medal.

Also Anna-Maria Wagner (KJC Ravensburg – BW) is in the semi-finals after a good start to the tournament. Up until then she had won all the fights in about two minutes. In the semi-finals she was also thwarted by Madeleine Malonga. After almost a minute and a half, Malonga fights for Waza-ari, which Anna-Maria Wagner can no longer equalize. In the fight for bronze, she confidently won the victory with three penalties for the Italian Giorgia Stangherlin and thus the bronze medal. “Anna-Maria showed good judo and we are very satisfied after she was unable to train for a week for health reasons,” said Claudiu Pusa, praising her achievements.

Also had a very good day of competition Erik Abramov (UJKC Potsdam). In his first fight he needed just 19 seconds to break the Ukrainian Balyevskyy. He also wins the next two fights in less than half the time, both with holding techniques. None other than Teddy Riner will be waiting in the semi-finals. He won Waza-ari after 22 seconds, which Erik Abramov was no longer able to catch up with. He then loses the semi-final with three more penalties and goes to the small final. However, he doesn’t let anything go wrong against the Uzbek Bakhtiyorov and wins after just over two minutes with two waza-ari and thus wins the bronze medal. “He showed good judo today and beat top people in the world rankings. We are proud of him for what he achieved today,” says men’s national team player Pedro Guedes.

The day before had Giovanna Scoccimarro (MTV Vorsfelde – NS) took 7th place and was on the first day of the Grand Slam Seija Ballhaus (TSV Großhadern – BY) Fifth.

All other German athletes were eliminated after the first or second fight and were therefore unable to place.
