After a crucial intervention by the VAR, Georgia has qualified for the finals of the play-offs in the European Championship qualification at the expense of Luxembourg. The Georgians won 2-0 without suspended star player Kvitsja Kvarachchelia, after a goal from Luxembourg, the 1-1, was disallowed.

Budu Zivzivadze thus became the man of the match in Tbilisi. The Karlsruher SC player hit the crossbar early on and gave the home country the lead in the 41st minute after a poor clearance from Mathias Olesen.

After the break, Luxembourg was the better team and ex-Telstar player Gerson Rodrigues shot nicely into the corner from the turn. However, the VAR referee then called José María Sánchez to the side to review the situation.

Luxembourg defender Maxime Chanot appeared to have hit the foot of former Ajax player Georges Mikautadze. After watching the images, the referee gave a red card to Chanot and a free kick to Georgia. The exuberantly celebrated Luxembourg goal did not happen.

Levan Shengelia shot the free kick onto the crossbar and moments later Zivzivadze decided the match with his second goal. Ex-Vitesse player Guram Kashia was also in the starting line-up for Georgia and current Vitesse defender Mica Pinto dropped out just before half-time for Luxembourg.
