Gandler sixth again, Vittozzi leads in the World Cup

The decision about the overall World Cup victory for the biathletes will only be made in the last race of the season. Lisa Vittozzi has the best cards, the Italian, who is in top form, slipped into the leader’s yellow jersey thanks to her victory in the pursuit in Canmore, which had previously been worn by the Norwegian Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold (19th). Anna Gandler asserted herself among the world’s best, the Tyrolean successfully defended her sixth place in the sprint.

With a flawless final shooting, despite three missed shots, Gandler made the decisive advance that led her to the Flower Ceremony behind four French women for the third time in a row. The 23-year-old was 54 seconds behind third place. Lisa Hauser came 17th, Lea Rothschopf shone with a zero at the shooting range, but fell in the final lap and finished 29th.

Biathlete Gandler sixth again

“It was a tough competition and almost my whole body hurts at the moment. The mistakes at the shooting range hurt a bit because it was the last shot twice,” said Gandler and spoke of sloppy mistakes. “In the end it was a really cool race thanks to the good placing.”

On Sunday (6:10 p.m. CET, live on ORF1) the season will end with the mass start competition. With a 61-point lead over Tandrevold, Vittozzi can achieve any placement better than 13.
