Flamengo’s Brazilian striker Gabriel Barbosa, known as Gabigol, has been suspended for two years for attempted cheating during a doping test last year. This was announced by the Brazilian anti-doping sports court, underlining that the retroactive disqualification began on April 8, when the events occurred. Gabigol can now appeal the sentence and turn to the CAS in Lausanne.

Gabigol, former Inter player, according to the ruling of the Brazilian anti-doping court, would have hindered the work of the inspectors, disrespecting them and not observing the instructions given to him to carry out the test, which later came out negative. The disqualification, however, as mentioned, is made to take effect from that day, so in fact it will expire on 8 April 2025 despite the fact that Gabigol has been regularly employed from 8 April 2023 to today. Meanwhile, Flamengo takes the player’s defense (there was no fraud, no attempted fraud. We’ll see what the Tas says.
