“Sport Bild” report

While one offensive talent is likely to stay at Borussia Dortmund for a long time, the other looks like it’s an imminent farewell. As “Sport Bild” reports, midfielder Kjell Wätjen will sign a long-term professional contract with the Black and Yellows. The 18-year-old has 19 points in 27 games across all competitions for BVB’s U19s this season.
Wätjen’s current funding contract is dated until June 2025. Most recently, RB Salzburg is said to have once again advertised for his services. Now he has promised to expand the cooperation and the new contract has been negotiated. “He is one of many talented boys who have made an incredible step this season,” said Dortmund U19 coach Mike Tullberg in a recent Transfermarkt interview. “Kjell is relatively free in his movements. (…) Rafael Lubach and Danylo Krevsun are partly responsible for the fact that Kjell has become so good with his speed with the ball and his special quality in transition situations. He now exudes a huge goal threat, which was a bit of a problem in previous years.”
Things are obviously different when it comes to Paris Brunner. According to the magazine, an agreement between Borussia and the side of the German U17 world champion is a long way off. Sports director Sebastian Kehl provided Brunner and his family with the financial conditions for a professional contract. However, these are said to be far removed from the demands of Brunner & Co. These are said to be disproportionate. The striker therefore wants a starting salary that should be more than twice as high as the usual junior player salary, which is around 20,000 euros per month. What BVB will probably not agree to at all. A separation next summer is therefore possible. Like Wätjen, Brunner is tied to the club until 2025.

The right-footed player has 18 goals and three assists in 24 games in 2023/24. “I maintain a good and very trusting relationship with Paris and its surroundings. Every teenager and young footballer is different. Life is about learning from your mistakes. That’s the most important thing and I pay attention to that. And if a mistake has been made and sanctioned, it is important not to pick on it anymore, but to return to normality as quickly as possible. “Paris doesn’t take any blame, accelerates, behaves well and is part of the team,” said Tullberg at TM. Brunner was briefly suspended last fall as part of a disciplinary measure.
